Sewing 1-2-3

I just returned home from a morning spent at the CAM. What a great place, spacious and tons of light. Perfect for kids to play and be creative. I’m excited to start the workshop:

Starting Monday, Jan 22 we’ll begin a 14 part workshop, Sewing 1-2-3. It’s a series of workshops focusing on sewing, learning about needle, thread, fabrics and pattern making. All materials will be included unless specified. Reservations must be made in advance. 7 and up are welcome, under 7 with a parent or caregiver. $140 for 14 classes. $15 for individual classes. There is a one time materials fee of $25 and it inlcudes a basic sewing kit with basic supplies needed for class.

Here’s the tentative schedule for the 14 weeks:

1/22 – cross stitch sampler
1/29 – wallet
2/5 – greeting cards
2/12 – pin cushion
2/19 – make a vest
2/26 – sock critter
3/12 – journal cover
3/19 – doll pillow
3/26 – apron from a pillowcase
4/2 – embellish your clothing
4/9 – pillow with applique
4/16 – re-make a t-shirt
4/23 – weaving with fabric and yarn

While most of the supplies are provided some will need to be brought from home:
for the 2/26 sock critter class, we will need a pair of knee high socks
for the 3/26 apron class, we will need a pillowcase
for the 4/2 embellish your clothing class, we will need a garment to embroider, patch, paint
for the 4/16 re-make a t-shirt class, we will need 1 or 2 t-shirts

The projects are fun and each one will teach a skill. One of the most important things about learning to sew is to practice, practice, practice. So while we learn a new skill, we are practicing another that we might have learned on the previous project.

Stay tuned, as I get ready for each class, I’ll post a sample of the project, a sneak peak…if you will. See you on the sewing floor!
